I want to get Macy a desk for her bedroom. Her birthday is next month. I am even willing to paint something if I can find the right one. I love the following ones....maybe not so much for their colors, but their style:
I think that this one would be a perfect style for her room, but without the loudness of the paint!
...and another that would be perfect, but painted differently for her.

I wish I could help you. My only suggestion would be to check craigslist in your area. You might be able to find a used one. Found this one but don't know if the city is close tow here you live. http://montana.craigslist.org/fuo/835279145.html
Anyways, good luck and I hope tha tyou find Macy a desk!!!
We painted a free desk from my in-laws for my girls' room. I'd check garage sales, craigslist and second-hand stores. Your best bet would probably be the first two - most stores would mark up a $5 desk to $100:) If you're wanting a nicer desk than what you'd probably find at a garage sale, try an unfinished wood furniture store or look into a do-it-yourself kit that is all cut out, etc, you just put it all together.
You could also put a top of some sort across two shorts sets of shelves and hang fabric across them or slide in baskets or something - whatever works in her room.
We painted the girls' desk 3 different colors and just yesterday added some vinyl flowers, courtesy of el cricuto:)
Good luck - I can't wait to see what you come up with, I'm sure it'll be fabulous!!
Wish I could help but everyone else has given the ideas I had!
I would check out garage sales like everyone else suggested. Also you could check D's furniture in Billings. There's also a furniture outlet next to Northland Automotive. And also there is a furniture store in Laurel on Main street that has good prices on stuff but thier invintory is always changing. They are only open Sat-Mon but they do private showings. I would volunteer my husband to build you one but I don't think he'd appreciate me heaping another project on him right now seeing as we are attempting to finish our basement. He's pretty good at the woodwork. He build me a dresser for Christmas one year and since has also built two nightstands and a dining table, and headboard/footboard for Ciara... I'm so glad he's a handy man. I'd be in trouble without him!! You could also check the thrifty nickle or the paper. Sometimes people place ads for stuff like that. I think they each have a furniture section in the classifieds.
okay, so I just went to the thifty nickel site (http://billingsthriftynickel.com/admarket/front_page/) and typed in desk in the keyword and the first ad that came up said they had a "student desk" for sale but didn't give a price. There were a bunch more ads for desks as well. That might be a good place to look!
