What's Really the Problem?

Last night I caught a small bit of Obama's speach, AND, by small, I mean only a smidgeon of it. But, I just can't stop thinking about where this country is headed. Man I wish that Romney would have made it further. He has the best value base to do the job. Anyhoo, here are a few of my concerns:
*What ever happened to CONSERVATION? As a child, I remember watching my grandma hand wash her dishes. She'd run the water so slow that it took forever, and when I asked her, she said it was so it wasn't wasted. I also remember my father walking around the house constantly telling us to shut off the lights (or TV, etc.) when we left a room.
*What ever happened to PREPARATION? Where have the family gardens gone? I just learned to can a few years ago because a dear friend of mine was always doing it. I love it! I love knowing that we have taken a harvest and preserved it to last us through the winter. Granted, I do not have a garden, but you have to see my yard to understand that. We count on the harvest of the local hutterite colonies, but I mentioned that I just needed to go spend the summer with them and learn more.
*Why does the government need to impose on the insurance companies? If they would take care of the way that they run their system so that people could not abuse it, then our insurance companies would not be constantly burdened with the higher and higher costs of medical. We, as a family (as well as many others I know) pay for our insurance or get it as a benefit through our employer, or a combo of both. Then there are the others that don't work at all and are always running their children to the emergency room for this fever or that, and when asked why the ER and not the doctor office, you get the: "we don't have to pay for it anyway" answer. Or, the VETS, (before I go any further, I DO believe that we should assist them as a token of our appreciation for the service that they have provided us), but I see so many that are taking the expensive medical machinery and just leaving it behind because it didn't cost them a penny. So many are out there drinking their livers away, and then expecting the government to take care of the medical problems they cause themselves.
Basically, I think that WE AS THE PEOPLE of the United States of America need to step up and start thinking more for ourselves and expecting less from the government. Why would anyone depend on something that is so full of empty promises? We, as parents, need to teach our children morals, independence, preparation, finacial stability, conservation, and above all, faith. We need to show them that the world isn't full of all bad, and that every little piece of good we can do will somehow, someway, brighten another.
I really think that I may have dug myself a hole here. Please don't turn this into a debate because more than likely you'll win. I am not, nor do I claim, to be up to date on the political scheme of things, but I really think that I need to pay closer attention to what the canidates are saying. It IS the future of my children and grandchildren that I am voting for right now.

I totally agree with you!! This country was started as one of self-sufficiency and independence, not of the self-entitlement attitude that tends to prevail now. One of my biggest pet peeves are people who take advantage of systems meant for those who truly cannot help themselves -- just because they can.

Yes, we do need to revamp our system so those who do need the help can get back on their feet. There really are people who need assistance for horrible reasons we should be thankful we don't understand. I think a big part of changing things will be to curb the illegal immigration problem that has not been dealt with in this administration. Spending billions a year on people who don't contribute to the system is not helping anyone. OK, enough political talk- STILL NO BABY NEWS!

Sorry Ashli.

Actually Jess, Immigration is a problem that needed to be delt with better twenty years ago. There will always be a problem until we can secure all of our borders. Maybe some walls, fences, definitely lots of men with high powered rifles that aren't afraid to use them, and don't have to be afraid of what will happen if they do use them. We could also just refuse service to persons who are not U.S. citizens, unless they have cash in hand. Welfare should be handled by communities, or churches. Alot of these programs wouldn't be totally bad if people would get back on their feet and start walking, but too often it is too easy to just keep putting your hand out.

Oh well, maybe Sara Palin will be our saving grace.
