Easter Egg Sidewalk Chalk

Have you missed me? I've been playing nurse/housekeeper around here. Myles came down with the Fiona yuckies on Tuesday night. I have spent way more time in the laundry room than I ever wanted to, and have changed clothing and diapers more than any other momma in the past week. I think that we are coming out of it though. He has kept down the small amount of food that he'll take in and he is taking tons of formula! So, Wyoming, we may be seeing you this weekend afterall! :)

Secondly, I have to confess that I am addicted to blogs. Is that possible? I have a few that I love to read and I have never, ever, ever met the authors. I found one while searching out the felt board stories and visit her frequently...she's so crafty. And, she links to some of her favorites when talking about certain crafty ideas, and I found this project:
HOMEMADE EASTER EGG SIDEWALK CHALK!!
All it requires is some plaster of paris, petroleum jelly, tempura paints, plastic eggs & we used some glitter for *shine*.
We mixed 2 parts plaster to 1 part water (I actually did NOT follow the directions completely and added way too much water for easy pouring and found out later that it was an uh-oh). Coat the inside of the plastic eggs with petroleum jelly (not sure if I agree on the purpose of this, I think that it made them harder to remove?) Filled each egg half (FULL, another mistake I found way too late!) with a colored plaster mix and let them sit for a few minutes to "set up" a little so that we could place the two pieces together. We gave the sealed egg a good shake and firm tap and then left them to set completely. They got warm to the touch??
Fiona Belle waiting for her turn to stir.
After they set up for a few hours, I took on the long and slow process of prying the eggs apart with a knife. One end would come off that way and then it was fingernail damage time to get the other half off. I even tried to poke a hole in the egg with a hot needle to reduce suction to no avail. Some of the eggs were about 3/4 of an egg upon removal due to my overwatering, and under filling (I warned you above!). OOOOOPPPPSSSS!!! But, we did get the cute sidewalk chalk for the Easter Bunny to hide since we will be traveling and will not take along the smelly hard boiled eggs.

Well, I was going to add in our Easter for a Week project, but this is getting long and kids are getting wild upstairs instead of resting/napping like I have asked. Have a wonderful Thursday night! We'll see some of you soon, and hope to talk to the LePage family tonight to see how things are going. Smiles to everyone else :-P
