This one is for all of the mommas out there that are struggling for QUIET activities for their children. I have been researching activities for our trip in July (early, yes; but I am so excited..what can I say?) while on the long flight from Denver to Anchorage. I found several great ideas and combined them for this one. Are you ready? Here we go....
I loved the felt board ideas for story telling, and I found a dress up doll one that was small enough to place in a plastic pencil box, and I found a gal that printed clip art on the Iron Transfer paper, then placed it on felt...So..............here's what I came up with....
I purchased the Avery brand Iron Transfer paper packet at Wal*Mart. 6 pieces = $6.90.
I came home and gathered tons of free clipart from the internet. FREE
I purchased plastic pencil boxes. 3 = $5.97
I purchased felt sheets. 8 = $1.60
I also purchased self adhesive felt sheets. 3 = $2.37
We bought Iron On Letters. 2 = $1.98
Yes, I have ALOT of cutting ahead of me, but it goes pretty fast.
These two are some "sticker sheets" that I downloaded from a kids' site.
Here's a close up of some pieces.
And the finished project (less some more cutting left to do). I used two small pieces of cardboard and put duct tape in the center to allow for folding. I also placed the left over piece of adhesive felt inside of the lid for more stick space. I have saved the clipart image pages to my computer, so if anyone wants them, let me know. I used WordPerfect for it since the photo printing wizard was cutting too much of the picture off. Another piece of advice (sp?) is to only download images that are able to save in the JPEG format. I had to reformat tons of these from the GIF since I could not convert them into WordPerfect.
They are so excited for these! They have been spelling out words and just having a blast. I think that there are several places that have actual felt printouts available for download. I think that we may go for a larger board for the house and maybe get some of the Bible stories for it. I may even print out the characters of the stories that Grady and the kids are writing together so that they can act the stories out.
Well, I better go check on the kids. Have a great day!

i really don't know HOW you do it???? coming up with the ideas amazes me and THEN.....all the work you go to in making it all a reality.....!!! lots of love to all
What an awesome idea! Great work Ashli!!
You are so clever! What a great idea! Sounds like a great idea for church, too!
WOW. You are more creative than I am. That sounds like a great idea. Do they get to play with them now, or do they have to wait for the soecial trip in July? I hope you read my response to your posts today. I didn't mean to make you all sad for me! I really am very used to it...I just get a little emotional sometimes these days! I'm not feeling as sick as I was, which is good. Just really tired. My friend had to change her plans and can't come down now, so Natalie and I will head to dinner at a friend's house in town tomorrow night. Hope to see you in a few weeks when I'm in Billings. If you are interested in coming to the show I can give you more details later.
Jess: Yes, we're playing with them right now. Since we've never had one before, I wanted to get them used to how fun these can be. We made a large board for the house and have had a great time making up stories for it. My grand plan is to take them back after a while and then they will be excited to see them again on the trip. I know that you weren't looking for us to feel sad, but we have all been in your boots (well, I wasn't pregnant and Grady gone working at the same time), but we all love ya and care for you. Yes, I'd love to come check out the show when you're here...let me know. :)
Well, maybe I can mail that package for you when I come to Billings! I can at least take her with me most places. I only get lonely when I don't leave the house for a while. Jill also helps me out a lot sometimes during the week. I can drop Nattie off at the store while she's working for an hour or so to work out or get some errands done. I'm sure you miss that up there. It's amazing the difference and hour on your own can make. Sorry I'll be so busy up there or I would offer to watch them while you and Grady go out to dinner or something. I'll come up Friday the 14th to run around town and set up that afternoon, then I'm there Saturday and Sunday all day at the Billings Nursery. I think it's on Poly, but not sure. I'll have my cell with me 431-2800 and my friend Mandy is coming with me to help. Anyway, we got good news from Daddy today that he may be able to come home Saturday night! I won't hold my breath though...:)
