Supporting Soldiers Overseas!!!!

When I dropped Macy off at school today I overheard a father telling the teachers that one of the other kids would not be at school because his father was leaving for Iraq soon.  They were going to spend the day together.  I came home and looked on the internet for inspiration in card making.  Some of you will be getting them in the mail soon.  I ran across a gal that had made some cards for the soldiers overseas.  The idea hit me.  I began frantically researching a few sites to get contact information to mail a care package to them.  When we picked up Macy I told her that we were going to look for some stuff to buy and mail over.  She immediately wanted to go see a real soldier.  I came home because Grady was to arrive soon.  We headed back out for the recruiting offices next to Target.  We visited all four (no Coast Guard in Montana).  They were so friendly and gave the kids tons of posters, balls, pins, pens, pencils, keychains, bracelets, etc.  Both of the older ones want to be a soldier when they grow up now.

I finally have made my choice on the volunteer soldier that we are going to mail to.  He has about seven people in his group and they are a helicopter battalion unit stationed out of Germany serving in Iraq.  We purchased a few things at Costco and will finish up the package with things that they would like to have.  If you want to do the same, a great website is www.anysoldier.com.  This is going to be one of our FHE activities.

I'm heading off to bed.  Have a great day!

This is such a cool idea - and what a great way to teach your kids patriotism and service!! I'll be keeping this in the back of my mind to do with our family after things calm down around here a bit. Luckily we have no shortage of boxes to mail stuff in right now, haha!
